Cesta Punta

First seen: Book 2, Chapter 5

A real, fast-paced variant of jai alai played with a long curved wicker scoop called a cesta.

Real-World Reference

Carl's Earth Hobby Potion handed him Level 3 in a skill called Cesta Punta. Neither he nor Donut recognized the name; Carl wondered if it was some kind of martial art, while Donut guessed it was probably the art of cracking walnuts with his toes.

Book 2, Chapter 5

In the same message, Carl asked Brandon whether he had any idea what Cesta Punta was, still unable to place the skill his hobby potion had given him.

Book 2, Chapter 8

Turning the skill over in his head while examining his fan box prize, Carl finally placed Cesta Punta: not a martial art as he'd guessed, but jai alai, a fast, dangerous, squash-like sport played by catching and throwing a ball with a scoop-shaped basket.

Book 2, Chapter 17

Carl's own fan box prize turned out to be a xistera, the wicker and metal scoop a jai alai player straps to their arm to catch and hurl the ball, and his hobby-potion knowledge of the sport let him rig and use it immediately.

Book 2, Chapter 17

Fleeing through the city with his new dungeon-given speed, Carl reflected that few team sports trained cardio as hard as basketball, guessing tennis, soccer, and probably jai alai belonged on that list too.
