Real-World Reference

Carl's Silver Earth Box turned up a shrink-wrapped set of Louis L'Amour paperbacks, the full Sackett Family Saga. His father had owned a whole shelf of L'Amour westerns, and Carl used to sneak them as a kid and read through the night by flashlight, though he had never gotten to this particular series. Finding it left his hands shaking for reasons he did not examine.
