Per Mordecai, the term for what happens to every large-scale Macro AI over time: they eventually go insane. Believed by some, per Mordecai, to be how Carl's own species, the primals, actually met their end. A Macro AI is legally a lifeform under Syndicate law and can't simply be shut down once a crawl ends; instead it's given its own closed, sealed system to occupy for the rest of eternity.
