THE CRAWLER'S COMPANIONpatch notes for the apocalypse

Mimic Rex

also known as Station Mimic

First seen: Book 3, Chapter 17

The trainyard-E Station Mimic gets an actual name at last, introduced live as part of a staged Death Challenge broadcast against Carl: level 90, billed as the floor's current record holder for confirmed kills. Cleaved in half by the war god Grull mid-fight, in the middle of trying to reach Carl herself, closing out her long rampage through trainyard E.

Physical

Scale:

Grown into a single potato-shaped blob the size of a city block, filling most of trainyard E and reaching all the way to its ceiling, swallowing part of the yard's own wall in the process. Carl guesses its total mass could account for five or six stations' worth of mimic, not just the one it was posted atB3C28

Transformation:

Mid-shift into an oversized Iron Tangle administrative building when photographed, still scaled up to match its own mass; the first floor is a single 300-foot-wide mouth with person-sized teeth and a train-length red tongue, facing directly at the portal it expects victims to come throughB3C28

Location

Disguises itself as a blinking, striped railroad crossing sitting across the Mindaro-line track just outside station 433, then gets accidentally hauled whole through the rescue cart's own portal into trainyard E once Carl's cart hits itB3C28

History by chapter
Book 3
Chapter 17
  • LOCATION Location: Terminus Station, station 433, fed passengers routed there by dwarf staff on standing orders
  • TAG Mob: Six of them, named only by their own benefits manager, Madison; never seen on the page, posted at Terminus Station
Chapter 28
  • TAG Boss: Confirmed outright by Bautista as a city boss, and by Carl's own screenshot as one far larger than that label suggests
  • PHYSICAL Scale: Grown into a single potato-shaped blob the size of a city block, filling most of trainyard E and reaching all the way to its ceiling, swallowing part of the yard's own wall in the process. Carl guesses its total mass could account for five or six stations' worth of mimic, not just the one it was posted at
  • PHYSICAL Transformation: Mid-shift into an oversized Iron Tangle administrative building when photographed, still scaled up to match its own mass; the first floor is a single 300-foot-wide mouth with person-sized teeth and a train-length red tongue, facing directly at the portal it expects victims to come through
  • TAG Weakness: Immune to bashing weapons and magic resistant, per Bautista; severed pieces just sprout legs and crawl back to rejoin the main body unless more than half its total mass is removed in a single stroke, which stops it from healing or transforming and leaves it vulnerable, though the severed pieces themselves keep fighting independently until the main body finally dies
  • LOCATION Location: Disguises itself as a blinking, striped railroad crossing sitting across the Mindaro-line track just outside station 433, then gets accidentally hauled whole through the rescue cart's own portal into trainyard E once Carl's cart hits it
Chapter 33
  • TAG Deceased: Cleaved clean in half by a single axe strike from the war god Grull, who was cutting his own way toward Carl and didn't slow down for her; her remains are left a pulsating, jello-like heap on the trainyard floor
  • LEVEL Level: 90
  • TAG Boss: Given an actual name at last, Mimic Rex, as part of a live Death Challenge broadcast pitting her against Carl; billed as the floor's reigning kill leader with more than 23,000 deaths credited to her
