THE CRAWLER'S COMPANIONpatch notes for the apocalypse

Skyfowl

First seen: Book 1, Chapter 3

A golden-eagle-like, winged species. Mordecai's own true form, born a skyfowl on a world displaced by the same cataclysm that took Earth. Not otherwise described this early; known only through him.

Appearance

First real look at ordinary skyfowl rather than Mordecai alone: eagle-headed humanoids, smaller than expected, the average male standing about five and a half feet tall, just under average human height. No separate arms; large wings with small finger bones protruding from the center joint do the work instead, with their large talons apparently doing most of what hands wouldB2C12

Golden-eagle-like, with folded angel-like wings; known this early only through Mordecai's own true formB1C3

Where

Make up a little more than half the population of the medium-sized settlement Carl and Donut reach this chapter, swooping and circling just under the ceiling going about their day, alongside human and orc NPCs and the same suits-of-armor town guards seen elsewhereB2C12

Connections

Mordecai:

His own people; Carl has already seen a photograph of Mordecai's brother and a few skyfowl in Odette's audience, but this is the first time he really gets to look at ordinary members of the species up closeB2C12

201st Security Group:

Worshipped as literal angels by this city elf cult, on the strength of a few contested lines from the elf goddess Apito's own mythology; per Mordecai, the skyfowl he knows on this level are mostly non-religious, treat it as an embarrassing joke, and he's never once seen it turn into real violenceB2C17
