THE CRAWLER'S COMPANIONpatch notes for the apocalypse

Xistera

First seen: Book 2, Chapter 17

Carl's prize from his own gold fan box: a large, banana-shaped wicker-look scoop, actually made of a light metallic substance, worn strapped to the wrist and forearm. It's the hand basket from jai alai (in-game name Cesta Punta), used to catch and hurl a ball, or in Carl's case anything that fits, hard and fast. A pull-ring retracts the whole scoop into a metal bracer over his forearm, compatible with his gauntlet. Not magical, but well made; replaces the slingshot as his ranged option.

Equipment

Appearance

Form:

A large, banana-shaped scoop that looks like wicker but is actually a light metallic substance, with buckle straps at the wrist and just below the elbow. Extends about two and a half feet past Carl's right hand once wornB2C17

Retracted Form:

A pull-ring on the elbow strap yanks the whole scoop in on itself, twisting into a metallic bracer over the forearm; Carl's gauntlet still fits snugly over the end of itB2C17

Connections

Carl:

Pulls it off and into inventory during the evacuation's magical gear strip-down, just to be safe, even though it isn't magical itselfB2C25

First real combat use, launches lit hob-lobbers with it at an estimated 250 mph during the Shambling Berserker ambush, blind-killing the anti-magic elf on the second throwB2C18

Straps it on immediately and tests it by launching oranges into the safe room door hard enough to disintegrate the fruit; replaces the slingshot as his ranged option, though small ammo like loose rocks doesn't lob well through the scoopB2C17
