Hump Town

First seen: Book 4, Chapter 1

A walled Dromedarian brothel town in floor 5's Air Quadrant, built against the outer wall of the bowl-shaped ground atop the Necropolis of Anser. Laid out in nested semi-circles like a rainbow: residences on the outer ring, shops and training guilds on the second, City Hall at the center. Streets run under enormous fabric awnings that furl down for daily sandstorms and unfurl again after, sheltering the town from both the wind and, per Skarn, the Dirigible Gnomes' bombs. Entry costs a toll in gold, drugs, or company.

Book 4
Chapter 1
  • RELATIONSHIP Necropolis of Anser: Built directly atop it
  • TAG Toll: Entry costs a toll paid in gold, drugs, or company; Carl pays with a blitz stick
  • PHYSICAL Appearance: Streets laid out in nested semi-circles like a rainbow: residences and barracks on the outer ring, shops and training guilds on the second ring (Hump Street), City Hall at the center, rising above triangular fabric awnings that furl down against sand storms and back up after. Adobe buildings mixed with rusty metal exoskeletons, steampunk gadgets, and battery engines
  • TAG Settlement: A Dromedarian brothel town in floor 5's Air Quadrant, built against the outer wall atop the Necropolis of Anser
Chapter 2
  • LOCATION City Hall: The largest building in town, off-limits to crawlers per Clay; target of the "Stay out of city hall" quest
Chapter 4
  • TAG Bombed: Untouched by the gnomes' bombing run, unlike the Bactrian town across the dunes; the party never learns why the gnomes spared Hump Town and hit the Bactrians instead this time
Chapter 6
  • TAG Dune Scythes: Replace the Thorny Devils outside the walls once the second sun rises and the heat climbs
Chapter 7
  • TAG Bombed: A Dromedarian named Emerald confirms the mechanism at last: the town shows the gnomes daily proof its own collateral is still alive, and losing it triggers the same bombing the Bactrians already got. With City Hall destroyed and Wynne dead, the town doesn't know if it can still provide that proof
Chapter 13
  • TAG Gerbil Swarm: Nearly overrun by a system-generated wave of thousands of frenzied gerbils, sourced from live ammo balls scattered across the bowl by the Wasteland's destruction; every camel lost in the fighting turns out to be a true Dromedarian, none a changeling
Chapter 15
  • TAG Buried in Sand: The unfinished storm shield rips away entirely once the sandstorm hits, forcing an emergency "gather five balloons" quest to shelter the town
Chapter 32
  • TAG Refugee Endpoint: Serves as the receiving end of Carl's mass extraction plan: every rescued group crosses the gate into Hump Town before Langley's team escorts them straight to the stairwell
