THE CRAWLER'S COMPANIONpatch notes for the apocalypse

Soul Crystal

First seen: Book 2, Chapter 24

A golf ball-sized, amber gem floating in the middle of Remex's chamber, tethered to him by a thread of golden light and sending a second stalk of light down through a hole in the floor to the guards below. Examined as C-Grade elf technology, described in its own tooltip as working like a wireless charger that runs on the soul power of everything killed nearby rather than electricity, and used to top off the settlement's swordsmen guards each night. The tooltip notes some of that stored power also leeches into something else, without saying what. Shatters and stops working if touched by living flesh. Per Remex, the crystal and the roof above it, which acts as an antenna, together make up what he calls the Amplifier.

Grabs the glowing, red-hot case around it off the floor and pulls it into inventory roughly two seconds before it would have gone off; the crystal itself no longer exists separately from the case afterwardB2C25

Examines its tooltip, then closes his emptied Sheol Glass Reaper Case around it without touching it directly, in a last-ditch attempt to contain the blast the new group quest warns is coming; can't pull the sealed case into inventory, so leaves it floating thereB2C24

Remex:

Tethered to him by a thread of golden light; per Remex, the crystal and the roof above it together form what he calls the Amplifier, which keeps the swordsmen animated and stores soul power skimmed off everything killed nearbyB2C24

Bonnie:

Wears it as a necklace, a gift from her father; hands it to Carl once the house needs to be kept groundedB4C17
